- To check if there is a will. If not you will apply for Letters of Administration.
- Value the estate and report it to HMRC.
- Apply for probate.
- Pay any Inheritance Tax that’s due.
- Collect the estate’s assets, e.g. money from the bank or the sale of the person’s property.
- Pay off any debts, for example unpaid utilities bills or funeral accounts.
- Prepare an account of how net assets will be distributed amongst beneficiaries.
- Distribute the assets and compete registration of property and shares as needs be.
